The workshop will be a practical session which explore issues related to the teaching and learning of (adult) numeracy, and especially the relationships between mathematics, language and literacy and about how to integrate and teach numeracy successfully as a natural part of literacy teaching and learning.
Throughout the workshops a range of different approaches will be demonstrated that can be used in teaching numeracy. In order to engage most students successfully in maths and numeracy the maths taught needs to move beyond the textbook, worksheets and chalk and talk to offer an alternative approach and a chance for ALL students to succeed and enjoy maths.
If you attended the workshop in Hobart on 24 March 2015, this workshop is the same. People who have not yet attended this introductory workshop will be given preference.
Dave returns in early September 2015 to look in more detail at the ‘how’, demonstrating engaging ways to teach and showing practitioners how to plan and create their own numeracy tasks and investigations.
